The software gives you the possibility of connecting to the Internet through a gateway that is provided by a friend or co-worker. The software's design and functionality are similar to that of a traditional VPN client. The user interface is split in three equal parts, in which you can find controls for allowing others to connect to the Internet through your machine, to connect your machine through another gateway and for managing favorite gateways.

Establishing a connection, in one direction or another, can be done easily, through the use of unique IDs and user-defined passwords. If you wish to connect to someone's gateway, you have to provide the ID and password your partner provides you with. On the other hand, if your partner wants to connect to your gateway, you have to provide him with the same kind of information, which is displayed directly on Wirelends' interface.

An interesting aspect is the fact that Wirelends doesn't use a third party server or bandwidth. Once you are connected to a gateway, you will use your partner's resources. This includes their IP address. Your real IP will be hidden and the online services you connect to will log your partner's address. The best part is that you will be able to use all resources your partner has access to, including cameras, subscriptions that are based on location, devices on the network and much more.
